First National Bank's Regular Season Comes To A Close

The First National Bank Cal Ripken boys baseball team ended their regular season by defeating the Police 5-4 on Thursday, June 19, 2008, making their record 13-1. Tournament play begins next week.

The First National offense did all its damage in the bottom of the second inning. Jacob Stephens got things rolling by leading off with a triple into right center field. Nixon Doughty followed up with a single to drive home Stephens for run number one. Doughty moved to second on a wild pitch and when Wyatt Krikie reached on an error by the shortstop First National had runners at first and third. Skyler Bryant had a single to drive in Doughty and Alec Carey walked to load the bases as Daniel Ferguson came to the plate. Ferguson had a two run single into right to make it 4-2 First National as Carey stopped at second. A double steal put runners at second and third, but Bobby Pearson and Chris Butler both were called out on strikes. Alec Carey came home on a wild pitch, and when the ball scooted away from the catcher Daniel Ferguson tried to score as well but was called out at the plate to end the inning.

Creighton Simmonds (second baseman) and Dylan McBride (right fielder) were injured early on in the contest when the two players collided while attempting to catch a fly ball. They were able to continue to play although both of them had rather large goose eggs on their heads from the impact. Jacob Stephens courageously took the mound for the first time since being hit by a line drive by his right eye last week. He showed no signs of being intimidated, and he did an admirable job pitching.

Nixon Doughty and Daniel Ferguson had two hits apiece to lead First National. Jared Pilson had a walk and two of the team's four hits for the Police.
